MAD WORLD – This illustration is meant to capture the days that pass by against our will. That uneasy feeling after your phone reminds you of some horrible global event and you push it off your mind – you’re late for work or a class. However deep down, you’re intimately aware that something is fundamentally wrong about the people and world that surround you.
FACE OF GEARS – When everything we are and do relies on a larger system to function – we will need to go to extreme lengths to gain any independence back.
NOTHING ENDS – This illustration is based off a nearly 7-year-old painting of mine. Conceptually, it calls to the exact same visuals and themes that I still enjoy today. My skills and appreciation for those themes have grown wider and deeper, so I reapproached the image how I am now. NOTHING ENDS represents the few ways we won’t change and the many more ways that we can never avoid changing.
FIFTH WALL PUPPET – The Fifth Wall: a narrative’s recognition of its existence as media; acknowledging the audience as the fourth wall and then moving one step further.
This illustration is an act. Its not just a gruesome image to conjure up your own memories of feeling trapped or lacking control – even if that’s all that happens. This is a simple exercise in questioning how you tend to consume a narrative. You aren’t always going to be the protagonist. You aren’t always going to be the audience.
BAD, WORSE, CONCEIVABLE – This illustration interprets the futile moment when you’re asked to choose between bad and worse. New potentials arise when you refuse the question entirely – it is the only answer that they will never remind you of.
STRAY
STRAY is a personal exploration of the complex philosophy between self and system. To navigate through systems designed to keep us still, we need to take on the difficult task of reconstructing ourselves outside of them.
