Leave Me Alone, Leave Me Afloat
This painting is about loneliness – a loneliness that is welcoming and craved, a loneliness that people use to reinvigorate themselves to find themselves escaping away in. For me, that is swims, baths, showers – water is that place for me. This painting started off on a wood panel and was finished digitally. I wanted the mood to be calm and relaxing and a little messy – the way one can feel aer needing to walk away. I used the bright colors in the flowers to invoke that sense of extra energy or anxiety, some a fresh some have died and dried out. They’re meant to show the character processing themselves in their solace.
