“Woven In Between” explores the experiences of diasporic identity through visual languages of textiles, revealing the ambivalence of cultural placement and the tensions between traditions and individuality. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, the project embraces “in-betweenness,” the push and pull between pride and discomfort, empowerment and alienation, understanding tradition while wanting the freedom to resist it. The resulting series spans themes of cultural shame, generational expectations, and beauty standards, drawing from personal memory and shared South Asian diasporic experience.
